The Great North Run 2009

The great North Run will take place on 20 September 2009, starting at 10:40.

It is being run early this year. Price to enter is £42 for the pleasure of running the 13.1 miles from Gateshead to South Shields. Entry is now closed. For safety purposes they restrict the number of runners.

The Great North Run comprises of a main race run by a multitude of ordinary people running for their charities. These people raise millions of pounds for all sorts of charities. We see celebrities, disabled people, wheelchairs, and there is also a childrens race. The Great North Run also has a serious comptetive side where there are an elite mens race, and an elite womens race. The women’s race starts at 10:15 and the men start at the front of the maiin race at 10:40.

The race is well televised by the BBC and is an amazing feat of organisation by the local councils, police and an army of volunteers.
