Visit South Shields

This website is all about South Shields, which is a seaside town on the North East coast of England.

It is famous for many things and we’ll try and cover as many as possible in our pages.

You may know South Shields for the Great North Run.

The Great North Run is a half marathon that runs every year round about October. It starts at the Tyne Bridge in Newcastle upon Tyne, and finishes in South Shields. Over 30,000 people run for charity each year.

Other people might know South Shields for it’s Roman links. There is a Roman fort here and we’ll do a speacial on that soon.

It is also a popular night spot with young people. There are great pubs and night clubs and people travel from all over the North East to have a good night out at South Shields.

And let’s not forget the food. South Shields is famous for Ocean Road. A street full of top quality Indian restaurants. We’ll speak to some of the owners as well.

South Shields is a seaside resort with a static fun fair and attractions. Open all year round it attracts thousands of people each year. We have award winning beaches, and some great places to visit.
